Hi, my name's Clay and I'm the dad of this wonderful family! We have the ability, with this website, to take a look at what people view when they stop by for a visit. Let me tell you, I've got the honor of being the least looked at member of our family! I've
been in the United States Navy for 14 years now and am a Senior Chief
Machinist's Mate working on submarine nuclear power plants. (For those
of you who just started wondering, that's got nothing to do with nuclear
weapons.) It's difficult to explain exactly what we do, but I can honestly
say that I love my job! There's something about starting up a nuclear
power plant then taking it several hundred feet deep in an ocean several
thousand miles from home that's exciting. It's even more fun when I understand
exactly how the power plant and the submarine itself is working to make
it happen. The only part about it that I really don't like is having to
leave my family for several months at a time when I go to sea. The Navy
has been very good to our family, though. The decision to stay in after
my initial enlistment was agreed upon by both Stephanie and me, and so
far we've been very happy with it. You'll have to check back with her
after I leave her with four children when I go back to sea, to see if
she's still happy!
I am stationed on the USS Jimmy Carter (SSN 23), in Groton, CT. I'll be part of the commissioning crew to build the submarine and take it to sea for the first time. I am finding it to be a challenging job and I'm really enjoying it.
What else do I like to do? Well, one of my favorite off-duty hobbies is working on cars. I really don't care what kind of car it is, or who's car it is, I enjoy it. I've just recently begun the process of rebuilding my Jeep CJ-7. Follow the progress here. Here's some pictures of the fun from when Kylie, Cameron, and I went with some of my friends from work..
